The Box Butte General Hospital (BBGH) Board of Trustees (Board) meeting was called to order at 12:00 p.m. Monday, February 27, 2023 in the Alliance Room at BBGH. The month’s agenda included the annual Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) education, a new Senior Leadership strategy focus, and a quality management update. The consent calendar, February financial report, and credentialing requests were all approved as presented.
Chief Operations Officer Jim Bargen gave a brief update on the electronic health record system conversion. The team continues to build essential functions into the system. The original go-live date of February 6th was postponed. The new go-live date is May 1. The postponement was to ensure a smooth rollout of the new system for both patients and staff.
Chief Quality Officer Mary Mockerman briefed the Board on quality management and safety. The COVID-19 community transmission level is low and masks are not currently required. In January, there were eight employees who tested positive for COVID-19, two patients were admitted to the hospital with COVID-19, one patient received the COVID-19 outpatient treatment, and three patients were admitted to the hospital with influenza.
Chief of Staff Dr. Timothy Narjes provided a brief update. He shared there are not many respiratory issues to treat. However, historically there is another spike in March. Additionally, Dr. Narjes stated he has had “a lot of deliveries lately.”
In governance and strategy, Chief Executive Officer Lori Mazanec shared Senior Leaderships’ new strategy to improve the communication and transparency with staff. Every Thursday Senior Leadership will share via internal email the Senior Leadership brief. This brief will inform staff on upcoming events, current happenings, hospital stats, opportunities, celebrations, and the weekly mask status.
During new business, the Board received their annual HIPAA education. The Board is required to sign a confidentiality statement alongside their annual education. Each member was present and complied.
New BBGH employees include: Jose Galvan, EVS Tech, Kelly Murphy, Patient Registration Clerk, Tiffany Gies, APRN, FNP-C, Family Nurse Practitioner, Haley Brady, LPN, Staff Nurse, Colleen Morrison, LPN, Staff Nurse, and Elizabeth Goodell, Patient Registration Clerk. Also recognized was February Employee of the Month, Stacey Petrachek, Patient Registration Clerk.
The next BBGH regular board meeting is Monday, March 27 at noon in the Alliance Room. The public is welcome to attend.
